Mission Statement
To preserve, promote and produce awareness and understanding of Hispanic culture and customs for all University students through community service, our most effective and direct way to improve society for all.
What is HSA?
HSA was established at the University of Texas in 2006. We are a student organization dedicated to bringing students from all across campus together to serve the Austin community while promoting the Hispanic culture. How do we do this?
- Community Service
- Our main focus is on community service. We host or participate in events not only on campus, but throughout the Austin area as well. Some of these events include Diabetes Awareness Week, HSA Longhorn for a Day, Voter Registration at the Austin City Limits Music Fest, Hip Hop into College Night @ Del Valle High School, volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club and Feria para Aprender. Aside from events like these, we also have community service projects at our bi-weekly meetings, such as making Holiday cards for a local nursing home or making sandwiches and passing them out to the homeless downtown.
- Social Events
- After all that work, everyone deserves a little play. We've done everything from Blazer Tag, Karaoke @ Austin Karaoke, Movie Night, the Tres Amigos Party @ Sky, and our End-of-the-Semester Banquet, just to name a few. In the Spring semester, we're planning a camping trip!!
- Intramural Sports
- Wanna let loose the athlete in you??? Join our IM team, the HSA Hard Hittaz! We've played volleyball and softball so far, but are looking to expand into other sports. All members are welcomed to play. It's just for fun!
- Fundraising
- In order to pay for organization expenses, as well as event expenses, we do a lot of fundraising. This includes car washes, bake sales, working the UT football games and events at the Frank Erwin Center and any other way we can think to make money.
